Membership
After
a busy AGM at a new venue, we begin the 2022/2023, we seem to be getting back to some of our
enjoyable activities.
Maureen is still collecting subs and sending out membership cards. For payment details By BACS please email 'friendsofgawthorpe@gmail.com
You may also pay your subs by cheque, payable to The Friends of Gawthorpe, and sent to The Friends of Gawthorpe, c/o Gawthorpe Hall, Burnley Road, Padiham, BB12 8UA.

Once all the subs are accounted Maureen will be moving on from being Membership Secretary as she has a new project.
Everything will be up to date and all recorded on an Excel spreadsheet. Maureen is happy to give lessons on how to use Excel, if needed.
A brief Job Description - You will attend committee meetings,
usually at Gawthorpe and meeting dates will be planned for the year at the next
meeting in May, You report on membership numbers & new members and
keep up with payments made to the Treasurer. There are additional
membership cards available for new members who join, this year. The Membership
cards are all ready prepared for next year and Maureen will email you all her files,
for reference. You may like to organise a membership recruitment drive
now that people are able to get out and about more easily. Membership is
a simple and straightforward task which anyone can do.

Find a Friend - Our membership has fallen during the last two years, wouldn’t it be a lovely idea for us all to ‘find a Friend’ to join the group and swell out numbers ready for our 50th Anniversary next year?

Green Canopy – Ethical Textiles
1 April – 10 July 2022
This exhibition is part of the National Lottery Community Fund Project Ethical Textiles.
Ethical
fashion is about designing and making clothes in a way that considers people
and their communities but reduces the impact on the environment. The exhibition pieces have been made by
members of the community from across Burnley including the Re: Fashion youth
project and the Valley Street Community Centre Sew Social Group.
It
showcases a range of techniques and materials, from embroidery with plastic
bags, to rag rugging, patchwork, basket making, visible darning and recycling
clothing. The pieces demonstrate the
importance of learning from the past and preserving traditional craft skills
and techniques for future generations to support a sustainable and positive
future.
Inspiration has been drawn from pieces in the Gawthorpe Textiles Collection on the theme of trees and woodland, and also linking in with The Queen’s Green Canopy, a unique tree planting initiative created to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

National Trust – News from the grounds of Gawthorpe
Kayleigh Chadwick, the National Trust Ranger had designed a
Sensory Trail in the grounds at Gawthorpe. I hope to be able to share it with you later. Now the better weather is coming it would be good to follow
the trail.
