About Friends of Gawthorpe

About us...

The Friends was formed in 1973 to bring together those people interested in Gawthorpe Hall and its grounds and the famous collection of textiles started by Rachel B Kay-Shuttleworth. The Collection is one of the finest in the country.
Members come from all parts of the UK.  They take part in a variety of activities including: giving volunteer assistance and producing a programme of events.  Our objectives are to promote all areas of Gawthorpe, raise funds in support and enable members to enjoy and take advantage of this delightful Hall, grounds and Collection.
Our fundraising helps to support the conservation of the many thousands of amazing items in the textile collection, library, Hall and grounds
Our programme includes– speakers on subjects of interest; lunches; trips to places of interest and special treasures events when the curator presents part of the reserve collection for members.
Our newsletter includes a calendar of events; reports on their outcomes, as well as snippets of information about the Hall, grounds and the Collection.
