Tree Planting

On Wednesday 1st February Lord Shuttleworth planted an oak tree in front of the Hall, on behalf of Lancashire County Council, to commemorate the life of Queen Elizabeth II.  He make a short speech saying how honoured he was to be invited to his former home to plant the tree in remembrance of the Queen. He spoke of the times they met and how happy she was to remember these occasions.  To plant the tree, Lord Shuttleworth used the spade previously used by Queen Mary when she did a similar planting on a visit to Gawthorpe in 1911 with King George V.

Mayors from around Lancashire, members of the Friends and LCC staff attended on a rather wet and windy morning.
